Fundraising for Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia & Coloboma Support (MACS)
Our little Maeve was born on 8th April 2024, at 36 weeks. A few hours after Maeve was born, the doctor realised that Maeve hadn’t yet opened her eyes. We’d hoped this was as Maeve was born premature, but deep down we knew something was wrong.
Over the next few days Maeve had several tests and we were told the devastating news that our little girl was born with bilateral anophthalmia and will unfortunately never be able to see as a result of no optical nerves or eye development during pregnancy.
Hearing Maeve’s diagnosis was a shock, followed by days of grief and worry about what the future may hold for our little Maeve. Maeve was just a tiny baby, and as family we felt helpless and has so many unanswered questions about her condition.
We were almost immediately introduced to a charity called MACS, who have been brilliant in showing us that we aren’t alone, and provided huge comfort and support during what were tough weeks and months at the start of Maeve’s life. Its been so reassuring being able to connect with other families in the same situation as us, and we are so grateful to MACS for providing us with the opportunity to be part of this community.
Fast forward five months and Maeve is thriving, she is the happiest little baby and she has her twin sister Orla with her every step of the way! She is hitting every milestone so far, and we know she’s going to do amazing things. We couldn’t be prouder of her.
Not only is this going to be the biggest physical & mental challenge of our lives, but it's also an incredible opportunity to raise money and awareness for MACS, a charity that is so close to our families hearts. Thank you for your support!
