Story
Hello everyone!
My name is Ollie Tennant, and throughout 2024, I have decided to run 12 marathons in 12 months for James’ Place, a charity who offers life saving treatment for men in Liverpool, London, and soon, Newcastle.
A friend of mine, Harry Edmonds, is also Running for Hope this year, taking on some challenges of his own, so if you are here to support Harry then please do donate! It is hugely appreciated.
Harry's challenges include the Hackney Half in May, as well as the London Duathlon in September.
Please see the below note taken from the James' Place website;
“At James’ Place, we work with men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis. By this, we mean that you might be experiencing intense and distressing suicidal thoughts, perhaps feelings of hopelessness and despair, and you may have made plans or intend to act on your suicidal thoughts. You may have tried to hurt or kill yourself.
Our centres in Liverpool and London support men from the surrounding areas who have self-referred or been referred by a professional including those working in health and community services, or by a friend or family member.
Our mission is to stop men dying by suicide. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 50. We believe that no man should face a suicidal crisis alone. James' Place provides free, professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future.
Unfortunately, you don’t have to look far to realise that this is something that affects/ has affected so many of us. James’ Place is about prevention. Helping those in crisis to get the help that they need in order to see that there are other options available to them; that help is there when they need it.
I can’t think of a better charity to raise money for.
I want to go big with this, so I need your help!
I don’t want this to be a solo effort, therefore I am inviting anyone and everyone to run 1, 2, 3 or 12 marathons with me. Whether you are an experienced marathon runner or first-timer, you are welcome.
There will be 10 organised races to choose from in London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Manchester, and more, as well as self-motivated marathons in London over the course of the year.
We want to include everyone, so you are welcome to choose your own distance, and/or run remotely on any same day as the rest of us, or get in teams of 2, 4, 6 etc for our self-motivated mara’s.
All we ask in return is that all fundraising goes to one place, one link, to raise as much money for this life-saving service!
Let’s make some noise with this; we want corporate sponsors, news coverage, social media blow up, and this will come by getting huge numbers on board!
How this works remains to be seen, but it’ll all come together somehow!
