Bucharest Marathon Festival 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·

During Anti-Slavery Week 2024, a passionate group of supporters will be taking part in IJM’s Run Romania – running various distances in the Bucharest Marathon Festival to help stop trafficking in Europe and beyond.

Story

We want to see the end of slavery in our time.

Thanks for exploring our page. We are: Alex Woodroffe, Sîon Glaze, Mark Bowtell, Chris Prosser and Hugh Tregoning.

And we'll be running the Bucharest distance TWICE to help stop trafficking in Europe and beyond. As a team we will run 3 legs of 10k, 1 leg of 12 and one complete marathon - 52.4 miles in total.

Shockingly, over 50 million children, women and men are held in slavery today. And trafficking isn't just happening a long way away – it’s happening right here in the UK and across Europe.

Women like Samara* are being trafficked from Romania to the UK, sexually exploited and subjected to violence – and the war in Ukraine is putting even more women and children at risk of exploitation.

Samara was trafficked and exploited for five years, becoming pregnant as a result. But with IJM’s support and Samara’s powerful testimony, four traffickers were sentenced to five years in prison.

Thanks to the support of people like you, IJM has worked with police and partners to bring over 95,000 people to safety from slavery and violence, and seen slavery decrease by up to 86% in places where they’ve worked.

Your donation will help build a world free from trafficking and violence.

About Us:

Siôn enjoys a run to explore the world and decompress from busy work and family life. Asked to join the team by a good friend, he’s excited to see a new place, and the amazing work that IJM are doing there!

…Chris is an avid runner and jumped at the chance to do another run and have a weekend off parental duties! Boosted by doing it for a good cause and supporting IJM in the work that they are continuing to do, Chris is hunting a 10k PB!

Alex doesn’t see the point in running unless it’s to kick a ball, throw a ball or catch a ball. Inspired by my university housemate Mark to reluctantly run, but delighted to be doing so for an amazing cause! Fingers crossed that I can complete the necessary 10k…!

Mark is a reluctant runner. Prefers to chase after a ball instead. Inspired by Hugh to join the team. Keen to raise money for IJM and to learn more about the value their work has particularly in relation to human trafficking.

With his lightning pace, Usain Bowtell is hoping to kick the relay team off to a good start (not last!)

Hugh has been putting one foot after another for at least 42 years...using movement to keep himself tuned up in middle age. Usually to be found running on a hill or on the beach, but happy to trade solitude to partner with a great bunch of guys and the IJM team - using our strength for good to raise funds—and, even more importantly, awareness—for such a vital cause.

Thanks you so much for reading and your support. Please check back for regular updates!

Until all are free!
