Story
Hi everyone,
We are the Evans family and last summer on the 16th August 2023 our family received the devastating news that our 8 year old cousin Harry was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma (malignant brain tumour). This type of tumour is the most common malignant tumour found in young children and Harry's tumour was located in the posterior fossa which is a small space in the brain found near the cerebellum and brainstem.
As of writing this on November 30th, Harry has completed his 6 week proton therapy which is the first stage of his recovery process and is now having some much deserved time away from the hospital. Stage two will be his chemotherapy lasting 20 weeks which will begin on the 27th of December meaning as a family we get to all spend Christmas together!
After hearing the devastating news back in the summer, we as a group decided we wanted to join the fight against cancer, specifically children's brain tumours. With a love for sport throughout our family we decided we want to test our limits by running a marathon in the coming year. After careful consideration we chose the Leeds 2024 marathon as its close to Harry's home in Wakefield so he can come and watch his older cousins (hopefully) cross the finish line on May 12th!
In terms of what we are running for, upon research we came across a Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham and after looking into it we decided that this is the cause we want to raise money for. With both of Harry's parents graduating from the University of Nottingham as well as it being the city Harry was born in there's a nice family link for us with this project.
We appreciate all support given and would be so grateful for any donations or actions as simple as sharing Harry's story. If you want to watch the journey unfold then follow our socials using the tags below. Thank you all and see you May 12th!
