Story
Hey everyone, and Merry Christmas!
As chosen by our subreddit members, our 2024 Christmas fundraiser will be supporting Shelter, a nationwide charity that:
- Advises tenants and homeowners on housing issues,
- Supports those experiencing homelessness, and
- Campaigns to improve housing availability and standards, including increasing social housing stock.
This year, we're thrilled to announce that Reddit is supporting our cause by matching your donations up to $20,000 (~Β£15,400).
Weβre hosting the fundraiser through JustGiving for several reasons:
- Transparency: We donβt handle the money ourselves, which ensures openness. (No moderator relaxation centre is in the works!)
- Tracking impact lets us see how much weβve raised and understand the difference weβre making.
- Anonymity: You can donate anonymously if you prefer. If you include your name or Reddit username, it will appear in the donations list on JustGiving. We and Reddit will not use this information in any other way
- Redditβs requirements: Reddit requires full transparency with fundraising efforts as they are matching it.
Thank you in advance for any donations you make. Below is a little bit more from Shelter about the incredible work they do:
We help thousands of people each year across the UK who are affected by the housing emergency by offering free, confidential and independent advice. When necessary we constructively challenge on behalf of people to ensure they are properly assisted and to improve practice and learning. We work with people who use our services as equals. We provide information, advice and support to help people identify the best options to prevent homelessness, to find and keep a home and to help them take control of their own lives. We exist to defend the right to a safe home and fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. We do this with campaigns, advice and support β and we never give up.
We believe that home is everything.
