On Sunday 26th May, our incredible team of runners are taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders!

Story

I am fundraising for Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, as well as, their friends, families, and professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.

These serious mental illnesses include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. My little sister nearly lost their life to anorexia but she is proof that recovery is possible and I couldn’t be more proud of her. She’s got her smile back through both her own determination and incredible support. There are 1.25 million other people in the UK of all ages, genders and backgrounds who have been diagnosed with eating disorders. Beat do amazing work in supporting people through recovery and I hope to raise money to assist Beat in continuing their life changing work.

My sister is also an incredible poet so I thought I’d share this:

It’s funny how things change

It’s funny how I don’t recognise the girl in the pictures that pollute my camera roll.

I swear that wasn’t me.

Maybe I blocked it out

I mean

Among the scream-

Ing

The resistance and the pain

The girl in the photos

going insane

Trapped in her own cruel mind

And I find

Myself

Remembering

Just the little things

Every once in a while

Things that happened to that girl

And I’m glad that they don’t feel real

Because that girl lived in a world

Of misery

Too caught up in her own brain

Too scared of change

That she changed herself

She let herself be controlled by a monster.

I don’t believe in possession

Or demonic spirits

But I do believe in depression

How it changes someone

I believe in mental health.

And there are people in this world that I am not fond of

But i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Not even evil could fight away the pain that is the look on your families face

Watching the degrade-

Ing

Of their beautiful daughter

Like a lamb left to slaughter.

It’s funny how things change

It’s funny how I don’t recognise the girl in the photos that pollute my camera roll.

I swear that wasn’t me?

Maybe I blocked it out?
