Story
On this occasion, we are raising funds in support of the Irish Cancer Society - the largest voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland, committed to improving the lives of cancer patients in Ireland through research.
The public donations that make all of their research possible allow them to fund the work of over 100 talented research professionals in top Irish institutions. Their research focuses on a range of cancer types across a number research priority areas including prevention, early detection, better treatments, clinical trials, and survivorship.
Irish Cancer Society funds a broad range of research from basic laboratory research examining the underlying mechanisms of cancer, to population-based cancer research that examines the risk factors associated with cancer in the population, in addition to clinical research that investigates the benefits of new treatments or tests for cancer patients. Their Social sciences, nursing & allied health research programmes are dedicated to survivorship research that seeks to improve the quality of life of those living with and beyond cancer.
Irish Cancer Society have funded hundreds of projects over the years leading to many discoveries. Survival rates are continuing to improve and people are living for longer thanks to research and advances in detection and treatment.
