Story
About the charity - 4Ed
In July 2022 Gloucester Rugby player Ed Slater announced his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and the 4Ed campaign was created to raise awareness and funds in support of Ed and his family’s battle with the disease.
By supporting this fundraiser you will be directly helping hundreds of families living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Gloucestershire to access urgent financial and psychological support, allowing them to concentrate on the important things without the new pressures in front of them.
About the challenge - Marathons for MND
The challenge will be for our team of 8 to together complete 15 ’marathon’ challenges in 24 hours. This will consist of…
1 x marathon (26 miles) stepper
2 x marathons (52 miles) ski erg
3 x marathons (78 miles) rower
4 x marathons (104 miles) run
5 x marathons (130 miles) cycle
…All whilst wearing full fire kit. This epic challenge will test the team’s willpower, stamina and ability to withstand the extreme discomfort of hot and heavy fire kit.
About the team - firefighters from GFRS and others
Our all female challenge team consists of 6 firefighters and 2 volunteers. The 4 firefighters from GFRS (Teresa, Amy, Tobie and Ceri) are a medal-winning team who have represented the fire service in various competitions both in the UK and internationally. Sarah and Jade are from other fire services and are regular competitors in firefighter fitness events. Fay and Rowan are willing volunteers joining the firefighters for this challenge! Rowan is heavily involved in the 4Ed campaign and an MND supporter.
