Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for the National Brain Appeal, to support the financing and opening of the very first specialist centre for Rare Dementia (modelled on the concept of Maggies Centres for cancer). The first centre will open in London in the autumn of 2025. So far £6 million has been raised from other sources towards the £7m necessary to complete the project.
My aim is to raise this final £1.0 million to complete the project by cycling round the coast of Britain - covering all my own food and accommodation costs along the way.
Over about seven weeks from Sunday, May 18th 2025 I intend to cycle c. 4,200 miles round the coast of Britain to raise £1.0 million pounds in the form of 100,000, £10 donations. I will be posting an update every day as I make my way round the country starting from Putney Bridge in SW London, via the white cliffs of Dover, Landsend, John O Groats and back down the East coast through Edinburgh, round Norfolk to Essex and returning along the north bank of the Thames back to Putney Bridge.
If you can donate more than £10, fantastic - my aim is to make supporting my challenge easy and to involve as many people as possible in attempting to raise this significant sum by making the donation small but encouraging you to spread the word.
This is an ambitious fund raising target and will likely require many donors. To offer some insight, approximately 8% of all UK residents (c. 940,000 people) will spend their later years coping with the challenging circumstances of dementia, Alzheimers being the most common form.
Substantial advances in research are being made by scientists and results are encouraging
