Story
Myself and colleagues from Specsavers are running the 2024 London Marathon to raise much needed funds for Crisis so they can support those affected by homelessness.
Crisis estimates that over 300,000 households will face homelessness during 2023, and with the ongoing cost of living crisis, the number of those affected is going to increase in 2024.
People affected by homelessness are more likely to have eye problems than the general population. In one study of 280 people attending a Crisis at Christmas clinic, 80% needed glasses, 20% had an eye condition that required treatment, while 10% needed a medical referral for further investigation - all higher than the general population.
Many people affected by homelessness go for years without having an eye test before they attempt to access care.
Specsavers Mission Statement is to passionately provide best value optometry, audiology and other healthcare services to everybody, simply, clearly and consistently, exceeding customer expectations every time, and as such we are working alongside Crisis and other partner organisations to provide access to care for those affected by homelessness.
Please give generously if you can.
