Story
My brother, Charlie suffered a life changing injury whilst he was away travelling South East Asia last year. Due to the nature of his accident, he had to have his left leg amputated below the knee upon coming home nearly two months after his accident.
This was an incredibly traumatic experience for Charlie, as well as for close family and friends due to times of strong uncertainty surrounding his health and wellbeing, and ultimately his life. Being across the other side of the world whilst he was receiving life-saving care is a feeling many of us will never forget.
Ellie, my brothers girlfriend, and I have chosen to take on this challenge with Day One Trauma as they were a massive support emotionally at the time of my brother's amputation. We want to give back to such an incredible organization that supports people who have experienced major physical trauma and so we will both be completing 100k of running and walking in June.
Their primary aim as a charity is to ensure that everyone affected by major physical trauma is 'supported to navigate the challenges that they and their families face without feeling alone'.
Charlie has come such a long way since his amputation just over a year ago and everyone that knows Charlie will know that he is one of the most positive and inspirational people you will ever meet. We are all so proud of how far he has come, and can't wait to see what he will achieve in the future.
Charl, Dad would be so proud of you.
