Story

In 2023, my best friend Maria's sister Gina passed away from sepsis at just 30 years old. An incredible daughter, sister and primary school teacher, she was perfectly healthy and had her whole life ahead of her.

Maria and her family are determined to save lives in her memory by raising awareness of this awful condition, which can take hold at a devastating pace and affect anyone. In the UK alone, there are 48,000 sepsis related deaths every year.

I am running the London Landmark's Half Marathon in support of Maria's year-long challenge to run a half marathon every month in places that are special to Gina. While I am running just 1/12 of Maria's races, I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for Team Gini.

Your donations will raise awareness, and spark the question: “What is sepsis?" Together, we can prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of sepsis symptoms.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
