Story
I'm raising money for Genetic Alliance UK, running my first half marathon in Berlin, 7 April.
3.5 million people in the UK are living with a rare disease. Although rare conditions are individually rare, they are collectively common and include sickle cell disease, lupus, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy - to name a few. Rare diseases are often underprioritised. People living with a rare disease face significant inequities in securing a timely diagnosis, and accessing treatment and care.
Having worked in policy and advocacy for rare diseases over the last few years, the challenges facing this community has really struck a chord with me. The patient and carer rare disease community who I have been privelleged to work closely with are incredible and I'm keen to support them both personally and professionally.
Genetic Alliance UK is an alliance of over 200 charities and support groups, supporting people with genetic, rare and undiagnosed conditions. They do incredible work spanning research, policy, advocacy and media to improve the lives of people affected by a rare disease.
Really appreciate any donations, running tips and moral support!
Lots of love,
Rosie
