South Coast Ultra Challenge 2024 · 7 September 2024 ·
Friends and family!!! I have given myself a challenge… it’s been awhile and was feeling an itch to do something for a very important charity called Reverse Rett. This charity is very close to my heart..why, you might wonder? I met Catherine and Ross at antenatal clases just over 15 years ago when our eldests-Angus and Oscar - were about to enter this world! We have been friends ever since. Meeting up when we can❤️
The challenge I’ve decided to take on is called the Ultra challenge - 100 k walk in two days in the South East coast of England and I’ll be doing this with Catherine in September. I’m quite excited but also quite weary…It’ll be an extra challenging challenge as at the beginning of the year I sprained my ankle and was unable to walk for over a month and still feel my ankle is not completely back to what is was🫣
Why this charity ? Why is it such a special one for me.? well because of Eliza. Eliza is a sweet 13 year old young lady who I’ve known since she was born. She is Ross and Catherine’s second child. Eliza was born a content and happy bqby but it wasn’t until she was a toddler she started regressing , everything she’d learned was unlearned.. I remember the first charity event Ross and Catherine organised in North Berwick and Catherine’s words just ripped my heart- in a bit of her speech she talked about Eliza- how she’d forgotten how her voice sounded. It was devasting for us all to see Eliza and her family go through this. Since Eliza’s Rett Syndrome diagnosis I have challenged myself in different ways to raise money for this charity-Reverse Rett, which fights for finding a cure and treatment for all children suffering this neurological condition that deprives them from living a life you and I have. Imagine having the ability to think but not being able to express yourself or communicate with others; imagine how frustrating that must be. So I am hoping to raise as much as I can for this beautiful girl and all the girls and boys that suffer this debilitating condition and for their families .
