Story
My story began 10yrs ago when i was a happy mum of 5 when my 4th child at the age of 3 fell unwell over and over again, and eventually, with lots of pushing, he was found to have 98% leukaemia in his bone marrow. Children are never caught early in a cancer diagnosis!
Childhood cancer is so so unfair, they have no idea why they are being poked, prodded and basically tortured, they beg us parents to get the doctors to stop hurting them, amd to go home, they just dont understand! They miss out on their childhood, making friends, going to parties. Birthdays and Christmas's are spent in hospital. And it effects the whole family the other siblings, its so rotten and really needs to stop!
Logan endured 1200 doses of chemo, being oral, in his hickman line, directly into the spinal fluid, injections direct into the thigh muscle (which they pre warn the parents.... this really hurts...)
He also had 900 large doses of Dexamethason, which really messed with head and body.
He spent possibly half his 3.2years of treatment in hospital, hooked up to vancomycin and tazocin antibiotics.
Logan between the ages of 3 and 6 and a half was anesthetised 25 times for bone marrow aspirations, lumber punctures, chemo into his spinal fluid, a personal op only needed due to the cancer, and 2 hickman lines (as one got a hole in at the point inside his neck, he said he felt the fluid gushing out inside his neck which was brilliant he knew and also very strange)
He fought every bug under the sun including deadly chicken pox.
This fight was horrendous for Logan and us parents and siblings but we are so grateful he is now 7 years post treatment, with only a few scars and weight issues which he continues to fight.
Watching My son and all the other children made me realise WE as humans are amazing and after his treatment I set out to push myself as far as I could and became an endurance runner and walker and obstacle course runner. I had never been into fitness or sports before!
I am raising money, of course, for children with cancer uk, I'm walking 100k in the very hilly wales, hopefully within 24 hours in July.
If all my lovely friends just gave £1 we could make a difference ❤️
Our vision is a world where every child and young person survives cancer.
For 35 years, Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond.
Our work has contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients.
