Story
Hi! I’m taking on a Kiltwalk to raise funds for my daughter Greer, and the rest of the Scottish Contingent who have been selected to go to represent Scotland at the Icelandic National Jamboree 2026. This will be a life changing trip for them.
Four years ago, I did the Kiltwalk to support my son Nairn and I, who were both going to South Korea for the World Scout Jamboree. That kiltwalk turned out to be the start of a different journey - one that I wasn't expecting.
Kiltwalk 2022 was - unexpectedly, given I was fairly fit - very rough going for me. By the time I arrived in Balloch I was dragging my feet and walking felt odd. I even got a health warning on my watch telling me that I had uneven gait.
What I didn’t know then, and what took me another two years to find have confirmed, was that I have Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. Feelings and symptoms that had seemed completely unlinked - from mental health challenges to balance and mobility wobbles - all made sense.
But, while a diagnosis of Parkinson’s has been difficult for me, it can’t be escaped that it has also been hard on my kids.
They give up their time to help and support me and they constantly worry, which isn't fair. So, I am determined to give back where I can.
This time it is my youngest daughter Greer's chance for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Help me make a difference in her life, and the lives of her fellow scouts, by sponsoring me on this kiltwalk. Every penny will go towards their costs.
Last time, in 2022, I did manage the full walk. Unfortunately there is no chance I'll manage that these days so I'm taking on the Big Stroll which is a 14.6 mile walk. It will probably take me longer to finish this than it took me to complete the full kiltwalk in 2022, but it will be worth every second of it.
Every penny I raise plus all eligible gift aid (up to 25%* extra) will go towards making this a trip never to be forgotten. This is made possible thanks to The Hunter Foundation and Kiltwalk sponsors. Any donation you can spare will mean the world to me and the young people going to the International Jamboree.
Thank you!
