Robert's fundraiser for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity

Mont Ventoux - 3 ascents in one day · 21 August 2025
In 2015, following years of ill health, I was diagnosed with Waldenstrom Macroglobulanemia (I know that’s a mouthful to say!) - a rare and, as yet, incurable form of blood cancer. I remember asking my consultant at the time how long I had to live, and he replied that I ‘should get 10 years’.
Today, I stand here, 10 years later, not just surviving but thriving as I’m as fit as I have been for many years. As a former Soldier, Detective and now A Charity Volunteer, I refused to let my diagnosis define me, and I’m not going anywhere yet.
To celebrate this milestone, I want to give back to the amazing team at the Jigsaw Building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (Oncology/Haematology), who supported and cared for me when I needed it the most.
So, in August, I’m going to complete three ascents of France’s iconic Mount Ventoux in ONE DAY from three different directions. That’s a total of 137KM and a combined climb of 4,400 metres!
And I’m not alone. I’m overjoyed and fortunate that Trek Poole will be assisting me with this challenge. Their incredible team will provide logistical support, cheers and even join in the physical cycle.
Mark, a sales associate at Trek Poole and has personally experienced the compassionate care of University Hospitals Dorset, is joining me on this amazing adventure to this mission to support our hospitals.
Our goal is to not only finish the journey but to also raise £10,000 for our local hospitals. I am hoping £5,000 will help enhance the Quiet Room in the Jigsaw Building into space where families and relatives can find comfort and sanctuary when having tough conversations. With we hope the other £5,000 will support the cardiology services in appreciation of the care Mark received.
Please, if you can, join us on our exciting journey. Your generosity will help individuals and families in our community have a comfortable space where life’s most difficult moments can be faced with love and compassion.
Let’s build this sanctuary of support together.
With heartfelt thanks,
Bob Perry
