Story
I will be taking part in a firewalk on Thursday 3rd October to raise money for Maggie's at The Royal Marsden in memory of my friend and guiding light Stuart Read, whose chosen funeral recessional music was 'Burning Love' by Elvis Presley.
I'm walking with some of my 'Friday Friends' from Maggie's - a group that have never all met face to face but through Zoom and Whats App formed an inseparable bond supporting each other with anything and everything life has thrown at us during and after treatment.
Sadly we lost our dear friend 'DJ Stu' in June, he was 54 years old.
Stu and I worked together in the early 2000's, reconnecting in 2019 when I was nearing the end of my treatment and Stu had just relapsed from the same blood cancer as me, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
We both joined the Maggie's Haematology 'Friday Friends' Group. Stu sent the group a tune every Friday to boost our morale and regardless of what he was dealing with, which trust me made my experience seem like a walk in the park, he was always there with words of encouragement, understanding and support. We miss him.
He encouraged us to live in the moment which is why we've ended up doing this firewalk - book it in the moment and then absorb what you've just taken on!
Please donate what you can to help me reach my target, your support is greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
How your donations could help Maggie's:
£15 could help pay for someone to get immediate support from a Cancer Support Specialist.
£30 could help pay for a session with a psychologist to reduce someone's anxiety.
£100 could help pay for a support group for people with cancer to meet others.
