Story
On march 22nd, along with Dan Malcolm, a lifelong friend, Jake Thompson my wife’s cousin I will be running 5km every hour for 24 hours a total of just under 75 miles.
We will be running again, in Memory of Two Amazing Women who were wonderful Mothers & incredibly hard working women! Whom unfortunately were taken from us far too early, Sheila Kent & Diane Linley. Also sadly earlier this year my Uncle Donald lost his battle with Cancer too, so we will also be running in his memory too.
Diane was like a second mum to me, she was my next door neighbour for many years whilst I was growing up and always liked to make sure she was keeping me on the straight and narrow! Diane actually worked for LOROS for over 20 years & has helped an estimated 40,000 patients & their families during their hardest times. She was sadly diagnosed in 2019 & passed away in March 2020.
Sheila was the resident Laundry Lady at LCFC for over 40 years and she would do anything for anyone! I worked with her personally for the last 10 years of her career at the club, she worked at the Training Ground on Belvoir Drive and we had hoped to try and persuade her to come with us to Seagrave when we moved but she had hoped to be retired by then and living by the Sea! Sadly this never became reality as she was diagnosed in late 2019 & passed away January 2021.
Uncle Donald passed away 12th Jan this year after being diagnosed with a Tumour on his face at the start of 2022, initially he was given just a few months to live but he exceeded expectations and made it past Christmas and New Year. Donald also worked for nearly 40 years at LCFC, starting out as a Matchday Steward and eventually rising to Stand Supervisor.
All 3 received End of Life Care at the LOROS Hospice. So doing this run and raising funds for them, is my way of giving them something back for the hard work they have provided, for these 3 incredible people!
Times are economically hard at the moment for everyone but if you are able to spare any money for a donation, no matter how big or small, it would be greatly appreciated and would be a donation well spent!
LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life to adult patients with Cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at either their Hospice or in the Community based upon Clinical needs regardless of background & the ability to pay.
