Story
On May 10th, I’ll be strapping in, taking a deep breath, and abseiling down nine floors of the Port of Leith Distillery – the world’s only vertical distillery.
Now, those who know me will tell you two things: I love whisky, and I hate heights. Seriously, even looking down my tenement stairwell can make me uncomfortable. So why on earth am I doing this?
Because Dads Rock – a brilliant charity that supports dads like me – deserves it.
Why Dads Rock?
Being a dad is incredible, but it can also be isolating, overwhelming, and let’s be honest – terrifying. Dads Rock is one of a kind in Scotland, offering playgroups, child first-aid classes, social support, and even workshops on how to braid your wee one’s hair (essential girl dad skills!).
More importantly, they recognise that dads’ mental health matters too. When fathers are supported, families thrive – and that’s what this is all about.
As a small and local Scottish charity, any donation will go far in supporting their work.
How you can help
Now, I’m not afraid to ask for things or throw myself into bizarre situations – yet, for some reason, fundraising makes me squirm. Meanwhile, the stuff that unsettles most people? No bother. My brain works in mysterious ways.
So, while I’d much rather be inside the distillery sampling a dram, I’ll be dangling off the side of it instead. If you can spare a few quid, it’ll go a long way in helping Dads Rock continue their amazing work.
And if nothing else, you get to watch me flail my way down a nine-storey building in sheer panic. Win-win, right?
Ugh… why did I agree to this!?
