Story
Hi my name is Ricky,
Thank you for reading my story.
I'm raising money for the Keep Me Close Appeal by competing in The infamous Fan Dance which is a test march carried out by both Special Forces (SAS/SBS)
It takes place over the highest point in the Brecon Beacons, Pen Y Fan, hence the name.
It is a fully marshalled 24 km route including climbing the highest point in the Brecon Beacons, Pen Y Fan, then descending to a turn around point. Then it's back over the ground I have already covered, back to the start point, all whilst carrying a 20kg Bergen.
This is an incredibly tough challenge that has stood the test of time, and is very popular with those who wish to push themselves to their limits.
The Keep Me Close appeal is aimed at providing parental accommodation for the parents of babies that are cared for on the neonatal intensive card Unit at Derriford Hospital.
Erin & Emily are the daughters of my very good friends Brad and Louise and they were born at 25weeks and two days weighing 697gms & 829gms on the 17th November 2023. Erin fought so so hard but lost her fight for life at 14 days old when she crossed the rainbow bridge to heaven. Emily was a little stronger but after 6 weeks of fighting she unfortunately caught Group B Streptococcus and crossed the rainbow bridge at 6weeks old to be with her sister.
Brad and Louise were overwhelmed with the kindness of the Keep Me Close charity and were able to stay with the beautiful daughters for the whole 46 days at derriford NICU and they will be forever grateful for there help and support.
By raising money for this amazing charity we can all hopefully help other families in the same situation
Thank you for your support and sponsorship.
Wish me luck!
