Story
At the beginning of the Covid19 pandemic as part of my daily outing for exercise, I included a sea swim in my trusty Speedos. I had no plan to keep going, but after getting onto a roll, I felt compelled to continue! At 500 consecutive skins swims I raised a bit of money for Macmillan. I have been on some long swims, some very cold swims and a few short swims of less than a minute. However, come rain or shine, I haven't missed a single day. More often than not Suzanne has joined me and currently she can tolerate the cold better than me! I invite anyone to either join me for my 1000th swim at 12.30 on the 23/12/22 (at TATUMS Beach PORTSCATHO) or to come & watch a group of swimmers enjoying the cold or otherwise. If you can’t make it, perhaps you could swim anywhere you happen to be and help in supporting me with a small donation. Many thanks Richard Holbrook
The money raised will go to The Cove
Money donated to The Cove Amenity fund is for the benefit of patients, volunteers and staff who visit and work in The Cove. We can purchase additional items to make patient and visitors more comfortable,
- Cushions because patients wanted some additional support and comfort whilst in the waiting area and during appointments.
- A highchair because parents of young children whose mums or dads are having treatment bring the children in to the Centre to be away from the business of a clinical setting.
- Treadmill and exercise equipment for the new Physiotherapy Service to help keep patients active and build their strength and fitness both during and after treatment.
- Electric fans to ensure the comfort of patients during hot weather or for those who may be experiencing hot flushes due to hormonal treatments.
In addition, it enables staff and volunteers to attend specialist courses in order to keep up to date with current practice and extend their existing skills.
