My Dad went into hospital during lockdown in 2021 and over the next few weeks tests were inconclusive but we knew he wasn't well. We subsequently found out the sad news he had bile duct cancer and it was inoperable. We were told a few days later by the hospital that palliative care was the next step.
A bed became available at the Hospice and never having been to the Hospice before I had preconceived ideas about what lay ahead. However, within 5 minutes of being there any negative thoughts I had went away by the welcome we received.
We spent the next 3 days with all the family gathered round my Dad sharing happy memories. None of this would have been possible without the Hospice and their caring members of staff, who went above and beyond to make sure his last days were as comfortable and dignified as possible. They couldn't have done any more for our family to help us come to terms with what was happening.
My Dad sadly passed away on 21 June 2021 and I was able to run the London Marathon in October that year in support of Hospice IOM. Therefore, it’s a privilege to be able to run the 2025 Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris to raise money for Hospice, so other families can have similar support when they need it most.
