Story
Hello friends, relatives and colleagues, I finally accept that I'm crazy!
For the fourth time I'm going to take part in, and finish the Dallaglio Cycle Slam. We start on the 14th April. This is a big year for me as I reach another major age milestone in July. This is truly a big test for me.
The 2024 Dallaglio Cycle Slam will commence in Rome and we cycle through the beautiful cities, towns and mountains of Italy then onto the South of France, finishing in Nice
Stage 1 is five days, covering 633kms and climbing 7,920m - Mount Everest is 8,849m to put this in perspective! On day 5 we cycle 155kms and climb 1,981m. I can't wait...
Stage 2 is another 5 days and slightly lighter at 539Kms and 6,725m climbing.
Why am I and more than 50 others doing this?
Simple. To raise vital funds for young people who haven't been as lucky as you and I.
63% of the prison population have been excluded from school, which shows just how drastically a school exclusion can affect a young persons life. Not only is this devastating for the young person, but this is also has a large societal cost of £370,000 per excluded young person over a lifetime. This is a huge price to pay for not looking after our young people properly. This is why Lawrence Dallaglios charity, Dallaglio RugbyWorks, strives to change the lives of these young people, disengaged from education, by teaching them key life skills to help them build more positive and productive futures for themselves.
Please make this gruelling event that bit easier by donating to my page and supporting this fantastic cause.
Thank you so much for your support. Richard
