Dorney Lake Triathlon

Triathlon · 11 August 2024
Last year I undertook my first Super Sprint Triathlon and against all odds, with an injured hip, managed to complete it. So this year I am going to attempt a Sprint Triathlon, doubling the swimming, cycling and running distances I achieved last year.
Since my wife Sharon was diagnosed with Alzheimer's just over two years ago, the YPWD (Young People With Dementia) charity has become a key part of our lives. They not only help the sufferer, but importantly they support their carers. What I had never realised before is that it is a disease that affects everyone around the person with the diagnosis, not only in the running of their day-to-day lives, but also challenging them emotionally. It's no exaggeration to say that YPWD, and all the great friendships we have made, have helped me to continue functioning even during some very dark moments.
Dementia is considered young onset when it affects people under 65 years of age. It is also referred to as early onset or working age dementia, affecting people from as young as in their 30's, 40's and 50's. Younger People with Dementia CIO support those living with a diagnosis, and their families, reducing social isolation and bringing people together when they need each other most.
So once again, I will be taking part in the Dorney Lake Triathlon this year for this great cause and would be extremely grateful for any donations you can spare.
