We build electric eco-fences in Africa to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems

Story

Dear Friends and Supporters,

In June 2024 Team BATUK are taking part in our inaugural Rhino Charge. An extraordinary event driven by a truly amazing cause. BATUK are entering into the Super-mod Petrol class with a UNIMOG, an the ‘half-charge’ with a military Land Rover.

The Rhino Charge supports the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust which is working to address the threats to mountain forest ecosystems and wildlife in Kenya. Not only does the Trust aim to protect wildlife and its environment, but its efforts support communities living adjacent to these critical areas.

All teams competing must pledge to raise a certain amount for Rhino Ark as a condition of entry. We have pledged 1.3M KSH for the 2024 event but hope to blow that number out of the park!

And that is where you come in. We are aware that giving money at a time of economic uncertainty, the cost of living, inflation, and day to struggles is probably at the bottom of the agenda. But these pressures are felt most acutely within conservation. The vital work that Rhino Ark continues to do is remarkable;

$18,000,000 invested in conservation

650km of game-proof fences built

>500,000 hectares of mountain forest secured

80,000 Kenyan families protected from human/wildlife conflict

178 schools actively learning about conservation

90 hectares of forest rehabilitated

And it does not stop there. The maintenance of these action plans is as important as the installation. As an example, 1 km of electric fence takes 800,000 KSH per year to maintain.

Please help team BATUK in supporting the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust in ensuring the globally significant wildlife and natural resources are protected. We want to be on the right side of history, and we hope you do too.

Thank you,

Team BATUK

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu. These provide an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo as well as protecting vital upland watertables of Kenya
