Rick's Big Run and Cycle 2025

Fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK
This year, I am running the Great North Run and cycling the Coast to Coast. I know what you’re thinking, I should add a swimming event and make it a big triathlon. Well, I’m not. I think this is more than enough.
After a hip replacement in 2019, I have become a lapsed runner and now a lapsed cyclist so needed something to get me back into shape. And, I’ve always wanted to do the Coast to Coast.
To make it extra fun, we’re doing the C2C inside two days. I also aim to finish the GNR in a similar timeframe.
I’ve fundraised for Alzheimer’s before, in memory of my Gran Audrey who lived her final years with dementia, but this year I’m doing these events with someone even closer to home in mind.
After their diagnosis with early onset dementia two years ago, I’ve seen at close quarters the decline, a once sharp mind dulled and made blunt by this awful disease.
It’s not just the individual that has to live with it, it’s the family that also has to struggle on and try to make the most of the hand life has dealt them.
That’s why I’m fundraising for Alzheimer’s Research, in the hope that families like ours can have a brighter future and find a cure for dementia.
Thank you x
