Story
Update 9th April
Thank you so much to those who have donated. I am staggered by your generosity.
For those that don't know, Mimi is now out of hospital and doing extremely well.
The care she received both at West Suffolk Hospital and Addenbrookes was incredible and Ed and Fran and the rest of the family will be forever grateful.
As race day approaches I am getting more and more nervous but confident that thoughts of Mimi will inspire me and get me round the course.
Thanks once again.
--------------------------------
On the 6th March 2024 my beautiful granddaughter Emilia (Mimi) was born at the West Suffolk Hospital, not long afterwards Mimi began to suffer a series of seizures and was very quickly diagnosed with a severe bleed on the brain.
Thankfully the bleeding has stopped, but Mimi remains in hospital, having been transferred to Addenbrookes. All signs are positive at the moment but of course we all remain terribly anxious.
I have a place in this year's London Marathon. I was not intending to run for a charity, but suddenly this has become very personal.
The care that Mimi received at the West Suffolk Hospital was incredible. The staff in the maternity ward have all been incredibly kind, compassionate and caring but most of all outstandingly professional. Their timely interventions and diagnosis have been a major contribution to Mimi's care and ongoing recovery. They are a credit to the hospital and indeed the National Health Service.
By way of a thank you to the hospital I would like to try and raise some money for their charity and I have written to them with a request that any money raised goes specifically towards their care of children.
I have not set a target as I know it's not only fairly short notice but also realise that there are many other worthy causes out there that also deserve support. So any contribution big or small will be greatly appreciated.
My WiSH Charity enhances the care patients at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust receive. This comprises of; West Suffolk Hospital, Newmarket Community Hospital and community services in Suffolk.
We fundraise for all wards, depts and services. We support everything from emergency to the elderly, bones to babies, and cataract to cancer care. You donate to the area closest to your heart.
With a population of more than 280,000 people, raising money to enhance the care our community receives is vital, and that's why we need your help.
