Story
This July we will travel to Coventry for the British Transplant Games - a celebration of the gift of life that organ transplants have given so many, including our India.
India, who as a baby had a life-saving liver donation from mum Claire, has just turned 12 and will compete in swimming and cycling after her medal successes in the same events last year. Much more than medals, the Games are a precious opportunity for Transplant families to connect and support each other and for children with lifelong - and often life-shortening - illnesses to participate and celebrate with their peers.
Our challenge this year is for Claire, India and I to cycle 227 miles between us on the weekend of July 8/9. This marks the distance from Glasgow Children's Hospital to Leeds Children’s Hospital - the two NHS units providing life-saving treatment and vital care for India and thousands of other children with transplants.
This is a big physical challenge for us and will include a 130-mile cycle for Richard on the Saturday, the biggest distance he has ever covered. Please pray for dry weather and stay tuned for updates on our progress with the cycle challenge and our experience at Transplant Games Coventry 2023!
We are part of Team Leeds - the city where India and Claire had their live donor transplant surgery. Leeds is an inclusive team that goes to great lengths to include as many families as possible in the Transplant Games. The average cost of funding a family at The Games is £1000. Any contribution you make will go directly towards supporting Transplant families to be a part of this hugely supportive and memorable experience.
