Story
In 2021 I had a breakdown following a series of traumatic events that I had been involved in both at home and during my work in the emergency services.
The following year, whilst still struggling with my mental health, I was lucky enough to have been referred to attend a 5 day programme in the Lake District with a charity called Climbing Out and can say that this week was the most inspirational week of my life and I came away with a renewed outlook and positivity. Climbing Out empowers people who have been through a life changing trauma to take control of their own mindset, actions and behaviours.
I have since attended a number of their Walk & Talk days, which are opportunities to meet up with fellow participants and keep in touch with the charity to continue in our recovery. I also completed the 2023 fundraising hike in which we hiked 13miles across 7 of the Langdale peaks in the Lake District.
In October 2023 I attended a further 5 day programme with Climbing Out, this time in Glencoe. Again, this was an inspirational time which renewed my motivation, helping me to focus on the positives and look to the future again.
In July 2024 I will be taking part in the Climbing Out expedition to the Alps, to traverse the glaciated Monta Rosa Massif, the 'Italian Haute Route' which will push us further, both mentally and physically, something I could have never dreamt of back in 2021. All of this is only possible through the kindness of those who donate to pages like this or direct to Climbing Out.
I hope to raise money for Climbing Out so that others may benefit from the life changing support they have provided to me. This page will also raise awareness of the charity and the amazing work they do.
I still struggle with my mental health at times, but it is now much better due to positive impact Climbing Out has brought me.
Thank you for taking time to read my story and for donating if you are able. If you are unable to donate, I would really appreciate it if you could consider sharing this just giving page to raise awareness of Climbing Out.
Thank you.
