Pedalling Pixie…

As you all probably know, our precious girl was born with Heart Disease and at 5 and a half months old took a turn for the worst and we ended up being admitted into Bristol Hospital a week before Pixie had to have her first Open Heart Surgery.

Ronald McDonald House stepped in and gave us (mostly myself as Sam slept in the hospital) a place to stay close to the hospital.

Without them we don’t know what we would have done. What they do for families in situations like we found ourselves in really is invaluable!

As parents we were rattling our brains in how we could raise money to give back after receiving so much.

We considered walking from Singleton hospital (where she was born) to Ronald McDonald house in Bristol (Where they saved her life in the Children’s hospital) but route planning seemed to be quite challenging and in parts unsafe.

We decided to ask Pixie how she would like to raise money and her response was “I want to ride my bike”. Then the penny dropped, cycling the equivalent mileage from Singleton to Bristol (82.2 miles) in a safe environment around the cycle routes of Ceredigion.

Despite Pixie not owning a bike other than a balance bike we thought it was a fantastic idea to raise money for charity whilst learning to ride her bike.

We took her to buy her first bike at Cyclemart and the training has begun!

The challenge will start on April 1st (the date Pixie was admitted) and has no definite end date.

We know our girl’s sheer strength and determination will help her complete this challenge!
