Story
On November 21st, 2023, my mum found me unconscious and fitting. I was blue-lighted to casualty and after being resuscitated. I had a brain scan, which showed a left frontal brain tumour called Oligodendroglioma which had caused the fit.
Surgery was planned for the 8th of December, 2023. I worked on the neurosurgical ward as a health care support worker alongside doing my nurse training, so I knew I was in safe hands, but I was still scared of the risks of surgery.
Tragically, the day before surgery, my dad, who had MS, became unwell with vision loss and extreme fatigue and was admitted to Morriston Hospital.
He never made it home. He died on the 23rd of January 2024 in Singleton Hospital due to a secondary brain tumour that was inoperable.
Thirteen months on after 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy, followed by 9 months of chemotherapy. I am at home recovering from neutropenia, and I have finally finished my treatment!!
Although I'm still in my pyjamas and have not been out yet, my goal is to raise awareness. I want to challenge myself and walk the Gower Peninsula Mighty Hike to help raise money for people living/affected by cancer.
I'd be so grateful if you could help me reach my £1000 pledge; this could provide people living with cancer and their families essential medical, practical, and emotional support.
Please give what you can- every little helps!
Thank you- Rhi and Lynda xxxx
