Story
I am challenging myself to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks in memory of my dad, who sadly lost his battle to Parkinson's in 2012. My dad had a particularly rare form of the disease, which due to underfunding in research, his diagnosis was delayed and as a result, so were his treatments. After the delayed diagnosis, we unfortunately lost him within 18 months. Within 4 years of losing my dad, we also lost my nan and auntie to Parkinson's (his mother & sister).
Every hour two people are told they have Parkinson's. It can affect anyone and there is currently no cure. As there is no cure for Parkinson’s, this charity aims to ensure that people live well for as long as possible with the condition, whilst funding non-pharmaceutical research to help prevent, slow down progression and reverse Parkinson’s.
Parkinson's care and Support UK offer free exercise, respite care, neurological physiotherapy, information, advice, support groups and are developing a CBT Helpline to help people with Parkinson's with anxiety and depression.
I understand that times are tough at the moment, so please do not feel pressured to donate. I appreciate any support, even if it's sharing my page or sending me a message to get me through this challenge!
If you know me well, you'd know that this is not the kind of activity that I do very often, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!
This is such a worthy cause and I am so happy in the advancements that are already happening towards finding treatments and hopefully a cure for Parkinson's.
If anything, my goal in this challenge is to continue to raise awareness and enjoy some nice views along the way!
Thank you all x
