Story
The Respiratory unit at Gloucester Royal Hospital are fundraising to offer all our patients access to TV's.
We are a 59 bedded acute Respiratory unit serving the entirety of Gloucestershire. These 59 patients are cared for in 8 bays and 11 side rooms, of which only some currently have televisions. We care for a variety of patients with a variety of ailments, however, a significant number of our patients stay with us for a prolonged period of time to recover.
Many years ago we were graciously donated televisions for our patients, however, these have started breaking over the last few years leaving a lot of our patients with no entertainment.
With so many of our patients confined to their bed space due to reduced mobility, ventilation equipment and breathing difficulties to name just a few reasons, they can become very bored and unstimulated. We know being in hospital is never what anyone wants but when it's needed we want to make that experience as enjoyable as possible. One element of this is still being able to watch the news, your favourite TV programme or have the radio playing in the background. Any of these options can add significant stimulation, conversation starters and enjoyment to our patients.
To fundraise for our patients, staff are organising a bake sale on July 4th in the Atrium of Gloucester Royal Hospital. They will then be undertaking a 20km walk around Gloucester and sharpness canal, date to be confirmed.
Please support us and our patients by donating to our cause or joining us for some cake on July 4th!
