Story

The route passes through the heart of rhino conservation from Lewa Wildlife Conservancy through the foothills of Mt Kenya to Borana and Ol Jogi Conservancies and the undulating plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy on the Equator, runners will experience raw nature in the wild. Along the route, they can expect to see not just rhinos but also elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, impalas and giraffes, and even leopards if they can stay awake long enough.

For their protection, the ultra-runners will encounter armed rangers at each 10-km checkpoint, water station, and frequent intervals along the route, allowing them to meet and learn about the men who risk their lives to protect the world's most endangered animals. Overnight camps in the four conservancies, under star-filled skies with the sounds of nocturnal beasts, will allow them to live in the bush 24/7, just like the rangers.

Funds raised by ForRangers not only provide essential items of kit such as new uniforms and boots but also things that improve living standards and increase morale, including health and life insurance, living accommodation and physical fitness equipment.

What could your fundraising support?

£17 | $20 pays for a life-saving first aid kit.

£82 | $100 will buy a smartphone so rangers can communicate and capture data in the field.

£180 | $218 could provide a three-person tent to provide cover from the elements during the night.

£3,200 | $3,800 could provide a new patrol camp to give rangers safe locations to rest.

£14,000 | $17,000 pays for a new ranger security base to improve their reach and response times.

£16,500 | $20,000 pays for a fully equipped canteen so rangers can eat nutritious meals together.
