Dementia doesn't just steal away memories, it steals away lives. Nearly a million people in the UK alone are currently suffering from dementia; one in three of us will join them in the coming years.

Having experienced losing my wonderfully loving Mum to Alzheimer's in 2020, the memories of her decline are something I can not forget. After being such an amazing Mum and lady, she started to be forgetful, repetitive, and finding simple things difficult. Within a few short months she was very poorly and needed around-the-clock care.

Sometimes, she could not recognise her family, and her personality changed. This was partly counteracted with medication, but in turn it made her very tired, all of the time. During the first Covid lockdown, we were only able to talk to her through the care home window. As her dementia manifested itself with physical symptoms, making it hard for her to swallow and severely restricting her mobility, she eventually caught pneumonia and passed away in hospital. Thankfully, we were able to be with her during her final days.

The process (or journey) of losing a loved one to dementia is long, drawn out, painful and exhausting. Too many of us know it all so well, or are experiencing it now. It becomes too easy to feel your time with them is defined by this process. It is not. Your lifetime of interactions is what defines your relationship.

Our song 'Angel' is written from the perspective of a dementia sufferer. Listen to the words carefully, perhaps they will resonate with you in ways you do not easily see from your perspective.

Rachel, my wife, sings the words I wrote in a way that seems true to my Mum's personality. I am forever grateful to her for telling this story with her timeless talent.

The song is featured on our debut album "Quitters, Haters, Manipulators" - we are Reminiscent X.

Streaming services only pay a tiny fraction of a penny for songs streamed. Whatever is raised in this way, we will cover with a personal donation to this page.

However, for us to raise a substantial amount to help Alzheimer's Research UK develop treatments and eventually a cure, please make a direct donation of whatever you can afford on this page.

Sending love to anyone who needs it right now.
