Remembering Nick Gandon - a fundraiser for the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund

*NB funds raised from this campaign will be exclusively for the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund, which exists as a designated fund within the Club Cricket Charity*.
Nick Gandon died on 28th February 2025, thirteen months after being diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer. It was typical of Nick's positivity and resilience that he outlasted every doctor's prediction - having been given just 'weeks or months' in January 2024.
This additional time gave us, Nick's family, the opportunity to enjoy making many more wonderful memories together, from trips to Lord's to holidays to Cornwall. Nick reunited with old friends, drank champagne and lit up the BBQ - his favourite past-time - at every opportunity. And he was also able to get to know his grandson, Joshua, long enough to see that his cheeky personality and love of people had been passed down the generations.
Nick also spent a lot of his final year setting up the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund (GPLF). This was originally set up in the name of his dear friend Simon Prodger, a fellow enthusiast for sport and its power to change lives. When Dad fell ill, it was decided that the Fund would bear his name as well.
It was Nick's strongest desire that anyone wishing to remember him should do so by contributing to the GPLF and the wonderful causes it supports. Its four beneficiary charities are organisations which harness sport - and Nick's beloved cricket in particular - for social good. As a former teacher, Nick was passionate about sport as a vehicle for 'character education', i.e. teaching youngsters traits such as optimism, resilience or emotional intelligence.
The beneficiary charities - with which Nick and Simon both had close personal associations - are:
- The Alsama Project - giving Syrian refugees in Lebanon a world-class education, including through cricket
- The Saracens Foundation - the charitable arm of Saracens' Rugby Club, delivering sport-based initiatives to refugees, prison leavers and young people with disabilities, amongst others.
- The East Africa Character Development Trust - providing an integrated integrated programme of cricket and character education to young people in Nairobi's slum communities.
- The Club Cricket Charity - the charity supporting community and grassroots cricket, through various projects including for mental health and wellbeing.
The GPLF exists as a designated fund within the Club Cricket Charity, and funds raised from this campaign will be exclusively for the GPLF. You can find out more about the Fund on CCC's website here: https://www.theclubcricketcharity.org/gplf-about/
*We would be so grateful if you'd consider a donation to the GPLF as your way of paying tribute to Nick. It would have given him a great sense of pride to see his legacy continued by giving more young people a sporting chance.*
