Story
On the 25th May 2023, Finlay passed away. He was the light of my world, his family's, and all his friends.
He was a boy like no other I have ever met. His kindness, wonderful personality, cheeky humour, beautiful smile, infectious giggle and heart of pure gold will be missed forever.
Finlay and I had spoken about doing the Half Marathon in Bristol together and had decided that next year, in 2024, we would run it to raise money for Retina UK. As anyone who knew Finlay would know, this charity was and still is, very close to his and all of our hearts.
When Finlay was 9 years old he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). RP is a degenerative condition in which the cells in your retina break down gradually over time and can, in the long term, result in loss of vision. Finlay always surprised everyone when he told them about this diagnosis, as from the day he found out, he took it in his stride. He was determined to never be held back by it, and truly was an inspirational boy to be around. His bravery in the face of all of this was something I was in awe of, and so it is for this reason that I am going to challenge myself, along with the support of others who loved him, to do this Half Marathon for him.
I ask that you please donate whatever you can, come along to support or even participate yourself, as Finlay would've wanted this to be the most joyful thing for us all to do together.
Whilst he might not be here physically now, I know he is watching and he will be there with all of us, every step of the way.
