Story
I am one of six fundraisers taking part in the iconic London Marathon for London Youth this April!
The support of trusted adults in grassroots youth community organisations defined my journey as a young Londoner, and ever since, my ambition has been to ensure young people have the safety net, support structure, and springboard to fulfil their potential and thrive.
My journey has taken me from formal education to youth sector frontline practitioner (youth worker) at a London Youth member to here Sport & Culture Manager at London Youth supporting good youth work pan-London because I know good youth work works.
Community youth organisations provide a constant lifeline and a vital safe space where young people can develop confidence, resilience and skills.
But what you do there is also essential. I know art and sports can change a life because of my experience. As a young person and into my early adult life, theatre gave me profound moments to express myself and explore parts of different identities that make me, me. And with three elder brothers, playing sports was non-negotiable. Still, at an all-girls secondary school, walking to and from the canteen was the main exercise encouraged. Until, as a young adult searching for community, I rediscovered sport, took up running and have not stopped since.
Every year, London Youth works with over 25,000 young people through its sports, arts, mental health, employability, youth action, and outdoor education programmes.
I'm taking on this challenge because young people need somewhere to go, something to do and someone to trust.
If you can resonate with or know someone who has benefited from youth work, you know how important this is and why any donation will support this cause. Please give now to allow me and #TeamLondonYouth to continue delivering the much-needed services we do
