Story
My son Zach (8) and I have challenged ourselves to swim 1 mile a day every day in September for both St Catherine's Hospice and Derian House Children's Hospice. It was Zach's idea inspired by one of his swim teachers and family friend Hannah who swam 10 miles in July for Breast Cancer Research. Zach has amazing endurance and commitment for a little boy of 8. He wanted to raise funds for Derian House Hospice having attended his Rugby Club Chorley Panthers fundraising day in July where he gained awareness of the incredible work the charity does. He wanted to also raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice as he knows I work there as a Community Palliative Care Nurse and wants to support a great cause. We love swimming as a family and Zach loves swimming for Chorley Marlins so it seemed a great activity to do whilst hopefully raising awareness of the work in our community that the Hospices do to support children, adults and their families with life limiting diagnoses.
