Fundraising for Huntington's Disease Association
Welcome to my TCS London Marathon 2025 #TeamHDA fundraising page.
Following a lengthy selection and interview process have been lucky enough to have won 1 of just 11 places offered by the Huntington’s Disease Association at next years London Marathon, on April 27th 2025.
I aim to raise awareness of Huntington’s Disease whilst raising vital funds to help and support those affected, as well as helping to fund medical research into this debilitating and often devastating condition.
My dear friend Melanie has Huntington’s Disease along with her sister Selina. Sadly, their sister Lucy, (who also had Huntingtons) passed away just over a month ago after suffering from Huntington's symptoms for a number of years. Their father died of the disease in the mid 90’s, and Huntington’s has been a part of all our lives ever since.
I have recently met another family who have three members that have tested positive for Huntington’s and they also lost their father a number of years ago to the disease.
Melanie and Selinas children are at risk of having Huntingtons, two of the children (out of seven) have been tested with one positive and one negative result. The remaining 5 children have not yet tested.
The Huntington’s Disease Association is a lifeline for not just those affected directly by the disease but also those in need of help, advice and support, including family and friends, work colleagues and organisations supporting those suffering from Huntingtons Disease.
I will be training mostly alone (mainly as I struggle to run and talk!!) though I am a member of an affiliated national running club.
I previously successfully followed Chris Evans 119 Days to Train for a Marathon plan (which was great fun!!) but I am also passionate about the Jeff Galloway technique and have previously used this following a bad ankle injury in the run up to the previous marathon.
The training process is really good for my own mental health, and I loved every moment of the Marathon in April 2024. I feel so lucky to be able to participate and will do my very best for this incredible charity who have offered me such a fantastic opportunity.
I ran the London Marathon 2024 with an injury and my main priority was to not cause myself any long term damage. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, it was honestly one of the best days of my life. In 2025, I hope to push myself a little further and significantly improve my race time.
Anything you can give, however big or small, to this incredible charity will be hugely appreciated xx
