Story
Martin was diagnosed with advanced stage 4 renal cancer, which had spread into his lungs, in February 2023. After a round of immunotherapy treatment it became clear that the cancer was simply too aggressive and despite the treatment, the cancer had in fact grown.
The disease quickly took hold and Martin was completely debilitated by the sheer pain and agony which sadly is part of this cruel disease.
Martin was admitted into Hospice Isle of Man for pain management on 1st September but it transpired in the following weeks that, devastatingly, he would not be coming home with us.
All of the staff at Hospice Isle of Man are angels. They treated Martin with compassion, empathy and dignity in every aspect of his care. As awful as the circumstances were, the Hospice staff made the short time we had left as good as it could possibly be.
The nurses even made a family hand cast and build-a-bears with the boys so they have tangible memories of their dad whilst growing up and these are now priceless.
The cost of Hospice care is around £2500.00 per week, and Martin’s care came to around £12,500.00. I am absolutely determined to raise this amount throughout the coming months to repay to Hospice what they have given to my family. I will be forever grateful.
Please, please, give as generously as you possibly can so that other families can also benefit from this wonderful place. Thank you, Rebecca
