Step by Step, Together
On the evening of Saturday 26 April, we will set off on a 40,000-step Sponsored Walk, beginning with Havdalah and making our way home to Finchley Progressive Synagogue. This is more than just a walk: it is a journey of community, purpose and commitment, to celebrate and support the Synagogue I am privileged to serve.
Why are we walking?
FPS is not just a synagogue; it is a place of welcome, of action and of care. Every step we take will help raise the final funds needed for our building work, ensuring that our doors remain open to everyone who needs us.
Who do we support?
At FPS, we believe in standing with those who need us most. Every week, as well as hosting services, learning sessions and more, we welcome:
30 children of asylum seekers to our Home from Home Club, offering a safe and joyful space
40 LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers to The Rainbow Lunch Club, where food and friendship provide comfort and dignity
60 Afghani and Farsi-speaking women to The Yaran Women’s Club, creating community and support
We also partner with incredible organisations like Homeless Action Barnet, The Southover Partnership SEND School, and the Somali Bravânese Welfare Association, because our responsibility extends beyond our own walls.
A Walk Through Our Shared History
As we walk, we will tell the story of London’s Jews, of the beginnings of Liberal Judaism, and of the people who built and continue to shape FPS. There will be singing, snacks and storytelling, and shorter routes so that everyone can take part.
This is our moment to walk with purpose, with pride, and with each other. Please support us by donating. Every step we take is a step toward a stronger, more welcoming FPS.
Thank you for walking this journey with us.
