Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year, I received the tragic news that Old Aylesburian and good friend, Ed Dean, had died. One week earlier, we had both been running the London Marathon in aid of our respective charities, CRY for me and Mind for Ed. Ed lost his life aged just 29.
Ed was a student at AGS between 2005-2012, a member of Denson House and a talented sportsman. He could turn his hand to most sports, including tennis, athletics, skiing and cricket, but it was within AGS rugby that he particularly excelled and thrived.
Having graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a 1st class degree in Business Management and Marketing, Ed’s career was highly successful working with LimeLight Sports and more recently with the Ironman Group, as a Commercial Partnership Manager.
Ed was a big supporter of the charity MIND and passionate about improving awareness of mental health challenges. Although 1 in 4 people will have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need. THIS HAS TO CHANGE. At MIND, they provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing mental health problems. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.
In memory of Ed, I am dedicating 2024 to fundraise as much money as possible for MIND to support them in their great work. My 3 main goals will be:
April 21st – London Marathon (26.2 miles)
May 19th – The Outlaw Half triathlon (1900m swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run)
June 30th – Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg
Having taken last year off from any physical challenges (apart from the London Marathon), I have considerable work to do in order to lose weight and gain the appropriate levels of fitness to complete these goals.
Thank you for reading about my motivation for fundraising in 2024. Donations of any size are appreciated and I hope that together, we can smash this target and honour Ed with a sizeable donation to the fantastic charity MIND.
