Story

Some of you may know that sadly my uncle Graeme passed away last year at the young age of 68 after being cruelly struck down with Primary progressive aphasia:

Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) is a rare, degenerative dementia syndrome that slowly damages the brain's language and speech centers. It's characterized by a progressive decline in language skills, with aphasia being the most prominent deficit at the onset. PPA is one of the neurodegenerative diseases similar to Alzheimer's & Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration, and most people who develop it are in their 50s and 60s.

Being the incredibly generous soul he was he worked with the Rare Dementia Unit https://www.raredementiasupport.org in London and travelled there in the early days to try and find ways to help future suffers of this awful illness. I would love to help continue the important work they do and to that end I have decided to run half a dozen 1/2 marathons this year with the aim to run a full marathon next year in his memory.

Dementia is the worst kind of illness as it strips us of the very essence of who we are, if the funds I raise help one person live a better, more dignified life then it’ll will all be worth while and I know Graeme would feel the same.
