My Story - Just Giving - Sarcoma UK
In April 2024, I am running, or perhaps more accurately trotting, the London Landmarks half marathon to raise money for cancer charity Sarcoma UK. It will be my first half marathon in over 11 years, hence the trotting! Between my last big marathon and this one lies a much more personal experience, discovering in 2017 that I had Sarcoma.
Having found a small lump on the top of my thigh I had it checked out by a doctor. Never in my wildest nightmares did I imagine it would be cancer. I was quickly initiated into a club no one wants to be part of when diagnosed with a rare form of Sarcoma. There is more chance of me winning the lottery than getting this rare subtype, one of over 100 types of Sarcoma (oh for the same ‘luck’ when playing the Euro millions!)
Each form of Sarcoma has very different treatments and outcomes, making each person journey with this form of cancer very unique.
I spent hours reading every medical journal entry and article I could find on Sarcoma.
I like to think I might even have impressed the Oncologist as I was so well versed on the subject. My treatment included radiotherapy followed by surgery to remove the tumor in my leg. I’m now in good health with a ruler-sized war wound on my thigh that serves as a reminder of how fortunate I am to be here. I’m so grateful to be fit enough to take part in this brilliant event and feel privileged to be able to raise a little money for such a fine charity.
So please donate and give what you can to support of Sarcoma UK, they really do save lives - they saved mine.
Thank you for your support
