Story
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page!
As you all know, my gorgeous horse Bertie lives at Wimbledon Village Stables, which every year organises a hugely popular and highly successful sponsored horse ride. Over the years, through this event the stables has raised over £1 million for charity, which is a massive achievement for a small riding school.
For me and Bertie this is an opportunity to wear something foolish or something fabulous and parade down Wimbledon Village High Street, followed by a ten mile ride through the wild woodland of Wimbledon Common and across the scenic open spaces of Richmond Park. You can see pictures from previous years on this page.
The real object of course is to raise money for charity, and, as in previous years, all funds raised will be shared between the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators. The wonderful work of the Royal Marsden will be familiar to you all, but the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators are also special because they are responsible for the protection and preservation of Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common. This vast and fragile area comprises half of all the heathland still found in Greater London, and is home to a wide variety of bird, animal and plant life. You won't see Wombles here but you may see stag beetles, sparrowhawks, hobbies, common buzzards, and tawny owls. But for me and Bertie this is our happy place and we want to do our bit to safeguard it for future generations of nature-lovers, dog-walkers and horse-riders.
