Story
As most of you know, earlier in the year I was diagnosed with Lymphoplasmacytic Lymphoma, also known as Waldenströms macroglobulinaemia, a non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Blood cancer in the bone marrow). Current treatments are good, however, they can’t cure the disease, only lower the levels and keep it at bay. As I write this (July) I’m preparing for cycle 5 (of 6) of chemotherapy, and I hope to go into Active Monitoring for as long as possible after number 6, before it reaches higher levels again and I go through some sort of treatment once more.
One day there will be a cure, and if me running 26 miles around London can help raise some much needed money towards that research then so be it.
Let’s find that cure.
As well as LM25, I’m also doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks a few days after final chemo, the Shine Night walk (marathon walk overnight through London), a Snowdon Challenge (bike, hike, kayak) and a 24hr Gymathon.
Blood Cancer UK:
We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
