Story
For the last 2 years I have been taking on sporting events to raise funds for charity while putting myself through discomfort and pain. This is never anywhere near what the people/families I try and raise the funds for face on a daily basis.
While doing one of the challenges last year I met someone who has a brother who has MND. This, along with cases such as Rob Burrow the sportsman, then made my decision to raise in aid of MND this year.
My plans for this year is to do the following events at present, these may increase:
Chasing the Sun (North) - UK NORTH - https://www.chasethesun.org/
A double-century feat over an spectacular 200miles, leaving from the beachfront on Whitley Bay at the first ray of sunrise, aiming to reach the esplanade at Ayr to witness the (hopefully glorious) sun setting into the sea beside the Isle of Arran. A route full of stunning vistas, wilderness, heaths, rivers, lochs, castles and beaches, a challenge to inspire you when pedalling the longest day.
START - 04:27am
ELEVATION - 3200m
FINISH - 22:05 - Hopefully (ideally earlier)
MILES - 200
The ROC Trilogy - https://www.theroc.com/the-roc-trilogy/
I will attempt to take on and conquer all 3 ROC locations, including Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis over 3 different weekends to complete THE ROC TRILOGY.
Covering 299KM with a total ascent of 20,615ft including each of the highest mountains of Great Britain:
This event is doing each of the 3 peaks but in triathlon form:
Scarfell Pike - 2nd September
Snowdon - 16th September
Ben Nevis - 7th October
What is MND?
Motor neuron disease (MND) is the general name given to a group of illnesses which affect nerves called motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.
In a healthy person, the motor neurons carry signals from the brain directly to the muscles. But if you’re living with MND, the disease can prevent these signals from reaching your muscles.
Over time, this can lead to muscles becoming weaker and weaker until they stop working. This can affect the way your body works.
MND is a progressive, life-shortening illness, and there is currently no cure for the disease. However, symptoms can be managed to help you live the best quality of life possible and make memories with your loved ones.
Sponsoring me will also help MND Scotland to provide practical, financial, and emotional support to people affected by MND.
Thank you!
