Story

Thank you for taking time to consider supporting my fundraising efforts! 100% of the funds raised will go to Women for Women International UK via this page.

“Leave the world a better place than when I arrived” is my personal aspiration. I’ve always been grateful to be born in a peaceful country where women have more choices and opportunities in life.

After going through some life challenges in the past year, I decided to volunteer more actively and emerge stronger. Then I found Woman on a Mission, a non-profit organisation that organises challenging expeditions, dynamic marketing campaigns and events to raise awareness and funds for women survivors of war, and to support and empower women who have been subjected to violence and abuse.

THE CHALLENGE | From 30 August to 10 September 2024, our team of 12 will embark on an expedition kayaking up to 30km / 6h daily through the Norwegian Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, navigating past six glaciers, and engage in hikes up to 6h daily under the extended daylight hours of the Arctic summer. The expedition is self-funded with an objective to raise USD 50,000 for two outstanding charities: Women for Women International UK and HumanityCrew.org.

THE CAUSE | Women for Women International works with the most marginalised women living in extreme poverty and are directly affected by violence and conflict. Since inception 30 years ago, they have cumulatively reached more than 553,437 women through a combination of programmes, microcredits and in some countries, by expanding their reach through local partnerships. Their programme helps women to build skills, knowledge and resources so that they can forge their own path and achieve long term security and self-reliance. Women are supported to start businesses, build support networks, and to take on leadership roles in their communities. The stories of some of the women supported can be found HERE.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION | Give a woman survivor of war and conflict the resources, support, and skills she needs to transform her life - and the lives of her family.

SGD 50 / USD 40 / EUR 35 could pay for five chickens for a programme participant so she can use the eggs for food and sell extra eggs to generate income and invest in more chickens.

SGD 150 / USD 110 / EUR 100 could pay for tailoring toolkits for two women who have been trained in the tailoring track, providing them with the equipment needed to set up a business and provide an income for their families.

SGD 400 / USD 300 / EUR 270 could pay for ten agriculture toolkits, providing women with the tools and equipment needed to grow agricultural products for food or to generate income.

SGD 850 / USD 630 / EUR580 could provide critical psychosocial support to five women who have experienced unimaginable physical, emotional, and sexual violence.
